From boat shows to RV shows, David and I have always enjoyed looking at ulterior modes of transportation and living. Our plans have been ideas of grandeur at times, but ultimately we finally decided to commit to a camper two months ago. Why a camper? Because it felt like the lowest barrier on entry to sticking our toes into the road travel world. AKA: It sounded fun! And with a camper we can visit so many places with relative ease (we think… we will report back on this).
We used the camper as a moving truck in August, filling it to the brim with items we were moving out of North Carolina, so we know she’s pretty sturdy. We did a one night camping trial at Stone Mountain State Park and this weekend we cleaned it all out to start prepping it for a full week camping adventure!
While it was cleaned out, I figured it would be a great time to take you on a quick tour of our Venture RV Sonic X!
New Camper Tour
First, some quick stats:
- It’s an Ultra-Light Travel Trailer that David can pull with his diesel Dodge RAM
- 27’7″ in length
- Solar off-the-grid ready with (2)Â 250-amp hour lithium IONÂ batteries
- 360-Degree welded tubular brush guard
- Extra-large fresh water tanks
But what really sold me on this model were the big bunks! Our girls aren’t so little anymore, now that Hailey is at least a few inches taller than me. While the slim camper bunks would work, I really felt that each of them having their own, slightly larger, space would make it a more enjoyable experience for them. Luckily David also liked this model for it’s slightly more offroad abilities and the possibility of boondocking. We found one at a camper dealer in South Carolina and after a visit to check it out, we knew it was the one for us.
So without further adieu, meet SMOKEY! (the cute side kick to David’s truck, which we lovingly refer to as Bandit).
We love her and are excited to take her on new adventures and make some awesome family memories. I probably should have taken a picture with the murphy bed up as well, but during the day, mine and David’s bed folds up and the couch pops up into a comfortable hang out space. I have learned quickly that storage space is at a premium, so I’ve been careful with what I choose to bring and have found a few great space savers. I’m saving all my camper favorites as they prove themselves worthy here.
We are excited newbies, so send us all the tips and advice you have. I’m nervous to even have us use the bathroom, though I know some people swear by it. We hope to cook most meals outside on our On the Go Blackstone. We have hammocks and camper chairs and are hoping for the best! I’ll be back soon sharing our first big adventure with Smokey!
