This actress made some unconventional choices in her movie career. Along with being a stellar performer, she is also known for her philanthropy work. Before joining the film industry, she studied literature at Harvard University and in her first year, she was awarded the Detur Prize. The actress, who has a sibling as a journalist, had won the John Harvard Scholarship and the Elizabeth Cary Agassiz Award for Academic Achievement of the Highest Distinction. She started her movie career by starring in a film that featured Amitabh Bachchan.
The actress we are talking about is Nandana Sen, who is the daughter of Amartya Sen and Navanita Dev Sen. Amartya is a Nobel Laureate and Bharat Ratna economist, while Nabanita is a Padma Shri awardee. Nandana’s sister, Anatara Dey Sen, is a journalist. In the year 2005, Nandana made her Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. The movie featured Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles. In the movie, Nandana played Rani’s 17-year-old sister.
Along with some Hindi films, Nandana Sen also appeared in several English movies like Seducing Maarya, The World Unseen, and Seducing Maarya. For the movie Rang Rasiya in 2008, Nandana shot frontal nude scenes. Directed by Raja Ravi Varma, the film starred Randeep Hooda, who played a 19th-century Indian painter and Nandana’s character Sugandha became the inspiration behind his artwork. However, the film failed at the box office.
Along with being an actor, some other works of Nandana include working as a literary editor at Houghton Mifflin Company and cosplaying Princess Jasmine in Disneyland. She is also the author of a children’s book, a screenwriter, and is also involved in several short films. Some of the children’s books Sen has written are In My Heart, The Monkey Who Wanted to Fly, and Talky Tumble of Jumble Farm, to name a few.
