A mystery for Nate and Lily (Sean Dominic and Christel Khalil, l.), a love triangle for Billy (Jason Thompson), and renewed (separate) romances for Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) are on the horizon on Y&R.
In a new interview with TV Insider, Executive Producer/Head Writer Josh Griffith offered a look at what 2025 has in store on Young and Restless, promising that the show will be whipping up what he called “a whirlpool of romance, suspense, and family conflict.”
Fight Club
The long-running feud between Jack Abbott and Victor Newman kicked up a notch in 2024 when Jack got involved in Nikki’s renewed battle with alcoholism, and spilled over to the men’s corporate dealings, as well. Griffith teased that as their reignited animosity reaches a boiling point, “Victor’s going to go after Jack where it hurts,” taking aim at Jabot. The war between Kyle’s father and Claire’s grandfather will have a ripple effect where Kyle and Claire’s courtship is involved, the scribe added — but that won’t be the only obstacle the young lovebirds will face. Griffith shared that Summer will “return to her Phyllis attitude” as she sets her sights on her ex-husband, Kyle, once again!
Another brewing love triangle that will heat up in 2025 is that of Billy, Sally and Phyllis. Griffith described himself as “really intrigued” by the possibilities of the Billy/Sally relationship, which was born out of the pair being betrayed by their then-lovers, Adam and Chelsea, who cheated on them last summer. Griffith revealed his plan to “slowly introduce Phyllis,” who was romantically linked to Billy in the past, “into that mix.” The writer also made it clear that Adam and Chelsea’s relationship — and possible reconciliation — would be a story focus in the new year.
Of course, some of the biggest dramatic fireworks of 2025 are sure to come from the truth about Heather’s murder coming out. Griffith assured that the story “is going to explode over the next month or two in a major way, with a lot of surprising reveals.” He noted that Mariah and Tessa’s happy marriage would be put to the test as a result of the machinations of Ian and Jordan’s evil plans, while the quest to get to the truth will bring another set of paramours — that would be Nick and Sharon — “closer than ever.” The life-or-death situation Phyllis and Sharon find themselves in may also shift the dynamics of their longstanding rivalry, with Griffith hinting that the women would find themselves needing to “reevaluate their relationship.” The Jordan/Ian plot will also have big consequences for the Newman family’s patriarch and matriarch; Griffith assured that “major showdowns” were in store between Victor and Nikki and Jordan and Ian.
And last but certainly not least, Griffith promised an exciting 2025 for the Winters family, with “a major, evolving mystery” getting underway with the arrival of new cast member Nathan Owens. He listed Nate, Devon and Lily as the characters most primed to feel the impact, but also suggested that some skeletons in Audra’s closet may be unearthed and play into the unfolding plot.
