The Osmonds are all just crushed over the tragic passing of their beloved Wayne Osmond, especially Marie Osmond, who had an unbreakable bond with her big brother. They’re all coming together to remember him in their time of grief.
“They are such a close family and obviously they’re grief-stricken,” an insider exclusively tells Closer. “Marie doesn’t know how she’ll manage without Wayne. He was her rock. She could go to him with her problems any time and he would make it better just by talking to her.”
Wayne died on January 1 at age 73 after suffering a massive stroke, his family revealed in a statement on Facebook.
“They all relied on Wayne both personally and professionally,” the insider adds. “He was so talented. They are determined to carry on his legacy and they’re remembering him for all the amazing things he did. They are sticking together and reminiscing about the good times and know Wayne is with them in spirit.”
Following the news of Wayne’s death, Marie, 65, broke her silence on social media in a post honoring her late brother.
“I’ve taken a break from social media for the past 9 months and will continue to do so as I have felt a need to unplug and spend time with family,” she captioned the post on January 8. “I’m so grateful that just a few weeks ago, I was able to take a long drive to spend time with my brother Wayne. I really felt the Spirit compel me to go see him, and I’m so thankful I listened to what I was feeling. I will cherish those hours I spent with him for the rest of my life. I didn’t know that just a few days after my visit, he would have a massive stroke.”
“I haven’t done any interviews or issued any statements until this post,” she continued. “The truth is, it’s just too hard to put into words, but I will try my best to honor one of the most loving men I have ever known. Wayne’s death has left another giant hole in my heart.”
Marie went on to say that what stands out to her the most about Wayne is “the joy-filled, humorous times I spent laughing with him and our deep intellectual conversations that left me edified.”
She said that Wayne was her “safe place to go” when she needed advice.
“Wayne loved deeply, and he showered this love upon his beautiful wife, Kathy, whom he loved with all his heart, and his beautiful children and grandchildren,” Marie said. “It’s all he ever talked about!”
Wayne is survived by his wife, Kathlyn White Osmond, their five children, Amy Cook, Steve Osmond, Greg Osmond, Sarah Hilton and Michelle Erickson, as well as 20 grandchildren and his eight siblings.
According to his obituary, the late singer experienced “personal health challenges” throughout his life but fought as hard as he could to the very end.
“In 1997, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which he courageously fought and overcame,” the obituary says. “A stroke in 2012 and another battle with cancer further tested his resilience, but Wayne approached each challenge with unshakable optimism. Unfortunately, hearing loss eventually led to his retirement from music, though he remained a cherished figure in the entertainment world.”
