The little girl’s failing health had led to her hospitalization, and Felicia was devastated to get the news that her daughter was suffering from a life-threatening illness. Maxie’s diagnosis was a key turn in what would ultimately prove to be one of the show’s most critically acclaimed and heartbreaking medical storylines — Maxie needing a heart transplant and receiving the organ that saved her life from her young cousin, BJ Jones, who was rendered brain-dead in a school bus accident.
