In 1973, Suzanne Rogers debuted as Maggie Simmons, who would later become Maggie Horton and then Maggie Kiriakis, on Days of Our Lives. When the Daytime Emmy-winning actress celebrated her 50th anniversary in 2023, she marveled to Soap Opera Digest, “I’m kind of shocked that I’ve been on the show for 50 years; I mean, how many people can say that? Not many. I’m touched that they wanted to do something. I’m honored and very moved, and I’m grateful. I guess it’s a testament to the fact that the show wanted to keep me around, and the audience liked the character. And I still love what I’m doing, so it’s all a win.”

In 1998, Bold and Beautiful’s Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) insisted to Rick Forrester (Jacob Young) that he was the father of her unborn baby — just as the other potential daddy, Raymond, returned to town. When Amber did give birth, in her hometown of Furnace Creek, the baby boy was tragically stillborn. In a panic, Amber agreed to pass off her cousin Becky’s newborn son as the Forrester heir. Becky thought that her son had been adopted by strangers, and Amber (with help from her mother, Tawny) scrambled to conceal the truth from her. It wasn’t until 2000 that Rick learned the little boy he had been raising was not his own biological child.

In 2012, Y&R’s Tim Reid (Aaron Lustig, pictured with Michelle Stafford as Phyllis and Greg Rikaart as Kevin) died after over-consuming wine and Viagra on Young and Restless. The character, who had originally been introduced in 1996, had returned to the canvas earlier that year, and was extorting money from Phyllis. He also demanded sex, and downed the fatal combination of drugs and alcohol in preparation for a tryst with her. Kevin helped Phyllis move the body, which was ultimately discovered by Ronan.
