We love waking up with Muireann O’Connell every morning on Ireland AM.
However, she got her Virgin Media start on The Six O’Clock Show.
She admitted that leaving the evening show was certainly “bittersweet”.
She reunited with her co-host Martin King on his podcast An Audience With The King And His Queen this week, where they reminisced about their time on the show.
She explained that she was told that she would be leaving the show and moving to Ireland AM while Martin King was on holidays.
“I knew about three days beforehand. He wasn’t there. They waited until he was on holidays to tell me to be like, ‘We’re doing something’. Because I would have told him.
“It wasn’t so much, ‘Hey would you like to’, it was, ‘You are, you’re swapping, this is what’s happening’.”
She explained that she swapped with Karen Koster, who spent two years presenting the evening show.
“I think it was because I did a swap with Karen, and for about three days I was like, ‘Can I talk to her, surely she knows as well’.”
She went on to say: “We were gone then, we never got to do another show together so I found that really hard. It was very strange, a very bittersweet moment.”
She added that she was nervous to join the new show as she wasn’t sure how she would get on with her co-hosts – Alan Hughes and Tommy Bowe.
“I didn’t know Alan, I would have seen him around the building but I didn’t know him. And I was like, ‘Jesus am I going to get along with Sammy Sausages’. Because it’s important, I built up this relationship with Martin and all of our fantastic contributors.”
But it all worked out great in the end!
